LGTBIQ+ seniors
A safe space to share experiences and discuss about the process of aging, highlighting their life stories.
Fundación 26 de Diciembre starts its activity in Galicia in 2022 with the implementation of an intervention group with the objective of providing LGBTQ+ elderly people with a safe space where they can share experiences and discuss about the process of aging, highlighting their life stories.
At the same time we seek to be a point of reference for the LGBTQ+ community in Galicia, in terms of resources and tools that can provide the organization to improve their quality of life.
In compliance with the Foundation's quality standards, a Social Worker will be hired to develop the work and coordinate the activities, providing accompaniment and support in the processes required by the group.
Rejas Rosas
In addition, the program Rejas Rosas is extended to the Galician territory. This program, which is already being developed in other prisons in our state with the aim of providing support to people who have been suffering some kind of sentence, currently serves an average of 15 people in Galicia, providing not only group attention but also individual attention, thus responding to the specific demands of the inmates, in direct coordination with the team of the prisons.
In addition, we collaborate with other entities, both collective and generalist, with the objective of creating a wide network in the territory that guarantees an optimal attention, at the same time that we develop activities with educational and awareness purposes, expanding information about the LGBTQ+ collective, with special emphasis on the realities and needs of the elderly.
In addition to the activities of socialization, education and intervention, we are currently working on the opening of a residential resource, under the model of community housing, which can provide a solution to one of the biggest problems that our group suffers, such as unwanted socializing, a very frequent problem among older people and that is aggravated within the LGBTQ+ older group. This housing is currently in the opening phase and we hope that it will be able to open its doors soon.
