‘Empar Pineda’ Award for the promotion of research on older lesbian women in Spain

First: Purpose

The 26th December Foundation announces the 4th edition of the Empar Pineda Award to promote research conducted by women, and whose subject of study is the

lesbian older woman in Spain, in any of its manifestations, theoretical perspectives and methodologies.

The aim of the award is to encourage research activity, as well as the dissemination and publication of the results obtained from the research. 

Second: Participation requirements

Any research conducted independently or in any of the following institutions located within the territory of the Spanish state may apply for this call:

• Universities
• Public Research Organisations
• Royal Academies that are part of the Institute of Spain and Associated Academies of the Institute of Spain
• Scientific Societies and Professional Colleges
• Public or private non-profit R&D centres and promotion of R&D.

The research must meet the following requirements:

• The focus of the research must be centred on older lesbian women in Spain in any of their manifestations and perspectives.
• The research must have been developed by a woman or a group in which at least 75% of its members are women.
• Works completed as TFG, TFM, Doctorate, etc. may be submitted.
• The research must have been conducted, at most, in the 5 years prior to the publication date of this call.
• That they are unpublished and have not received awards or honourable mentions in other competitions or contests.
• That they are not subject to confidentiality clauses.
• Only one project may be submitted per person / group

Third: Submission of applications

The application submission period will begin on Friday 1 August 2025 and will end at 23:59 hours on Friday 31 October 2025.

Applications must be submitted only in Spanish.

The research work must be sent to the email address: formacion@fundacion26d.org , indicating in the subject of the email: CANDIDATURE EMPAR PINEDA AWARD, and attaching the following additional documentation:

• Completed application form. The form can be downloaded here.
• Abbreviated curriculum vitae of the person submitting the application, indicating their complete personal and professional details, and their current professional position.

The receipt of applications will be confirmed within 48 hours. If not, please contact the same email address.

The submission of applications that do not meet all the requirements set out in the rules of this call and/or do not provide all the requested documentation will not be accepted for evaluation.

Fourth: Evaluation criteria

The evaluation of the submitted projects will be carried out by a Jury made up of an odd number and appointed by the 26th December Foundation.

The jury will assess:

• Quality and originality.
• Contributions of the work: conceptual, practical, etc.
• Narrative style.

The jury may declare the prize void if the submitted works do not have sufficient quality or are poorly linked to the object of this call.

The jury's decision may not be appealed.

Fifth: Prize and publicity

The work rated highest by the jury will receive a prize of €1,000.

The winning work will be published in the Empar Pineda collection, and publicised on the website, newsletter, and social media profiles of the Fundación 26 de Diciembre.

The award ceremony will take place during the VII Meeting of Research, Memory and LGTBIQ+ Experiences, organised by the Fundación 26 de Diciembre and which will be held at the end of 2025 in Madrid.

Sixth: Protection of personal data and confidentiality of information

The documentation and data provided in the submission of applications for this call as well as the information about both natural and legal persons obtained during the instruction procedure, will be considered the exclusive property of these persons and will be treated as confidential for all purposes, and may only be made public with the prior authorisation of their owners, in accordance with Organic Law 3/2018, of 5 December, on the Protection of Personal Data and guarantee of digital rights, and Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 27 April 2016, regarding the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and the free movement of such data and repealing Directive 95/46/EC [General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)].

The jury may declare the award void if the submitted works do not have sufficient quality or are poorly linked to the object of this call. 

The jury's decision cannot be appealed.

The work rated highest by the jury will receive a prize of €1,000 

The work will be published and publicised on the website, newsletter, and social media profiles of the Fundación 26 de Diciembre. 

The award presentation will take place during the V Meeting of Research, Memory and LGTBIQ+ Experiences, organised by the Fundación 26 de Diciembre and which will be held at the end of 2022 in Madrid.
